| Floristry wire, often known as stubb wire comes in different weights and lengths. The purpose of wire in floristry is for several reasons, to give an anchor point to the material you are wiring enabling it to be attached to something else, to strengthen the stem to avoid breakage, and of course to add length to a short stem. The use of the wire shouldn't make the material too rigid so different weight wires are made and in general, its best to try and use the lightest you can while still making it effective, only with practise can you get to know by instinct and experience, which to use, so, if learning floristry get a good selection so you can see the effects the different weights have. The weight denotes the thickness so for instance, 56guage is .56 of 1mm so half a millimetre, see? |
